Empowering the Learner: Part 1

How you can help

The greatest gift an educator can give a student is an experience of Learning that is Empowering, Engaging and Exciting - one that consequently ignites a desire for continuous improvement.

When we teach the way students learn, they learn fast, retain the information and have the confidence to use the new skills learnt. As Educators we do our job with less stress knowing we are using techniques that facilitate good learning.

Maintaining your trainer and assessor currency is a requirement of the AQTF Standards, it is also an investment in your professionalism and your students’ success.

Experience Brain-Friendly Learning in Practice and see how easy it is to implement into any learning context. Great teaching has the additional benefit of leading to great word-of-mouth referrals for your business as well.

Masters of Manipulation

How they can help themselves

If you are a Trainer, then here’s a title to add to your resume you may not have heard of before.  As a Trainer, you are, in effect, a ‘Master Manipulator’; because in Training, manipulation is the name of the game for effective knowledge transfer.

Have you ever wondered why some people just seem to ‘get it’, and others just don’t? Take, for example, Sherlock Holmes and Watson. The former just observed everything almost unconsciously, while the latter barely kept up with the astute observations from his colleague.

Have you ever noticed that some people know their material, but can’t seem to be able to articulate it well, and the more they try to do so, the more confused them seem to become?

Well, the uncomfortable truth is that maybe we have to pay more attention to Brain Research when planning, designing and delivering our training materials to ensure we are doing the best we can for our students.

Learning is about connecting brain cells.  That’s it - pure and simple, and at its most basic. Our role should be more about manipulating great, resourceful learning states for our learners, than just giving them the information and hoping that it sticks.  We need to ensure those brain cell connections are made – multiple, strong, enduring connections – and this is done during training with an engaging delivery style that is brain friendly and fun.

This has nothing to do with ‘Content’ - it has to do with the delivery of that content.

Good manipulation is an art-form, but highly effective when done well.  We activate Neuro- pathways to facilitate great learning. A trainer’s role is to embed information, but in the most effective way possible, and with delivery skills.

Possibility Thinking

How they can help themselves

If you would you rather focus on Possibilities and Opportunities, than feel daunted and overwhelmed by problems and negative challenges, then this workshop is for you!

Learn from Neuroscience research on how to use the Mental Muscle of the Mind to save energy and time.

With the ‘busy-ness’ of work and life we can get caught up in the ‘little things’ that sabotage our thinking and best efforts, which then drains our energy and focus.

This will be a very practical-skills workshop that will assist you in your professional and personal life. Expect to learn ways to achieve flexibility with your thinking. Be open and be prepared to be challenged and have fun.

Maintaining Sanity in Times of Change

How they can help themselves

A passer-by noticed a workman struggling to fell a tree. The longer he watched, the more he realised the workman was using a blunt tool, and just sawing and sawing away, and making very little impression on the tree. He said: ’Excuse me, but you seem to be really doing it the hard way. Your blade is blunt and worn out. Why not stop and sharpen your saw?’ The workman replied: ‘Stop? I can’t stop! I haven’t got time to stop and sharpen a saw. Can’t you see the thickness of this tree?’ and he continued on sawing and sawing and sawing...’

This workshop is unashamedly about Rekindling your Spirit with simple techniques to maintain both the passion and the vision. The impossible IS possible, as long as we take time to work with our brain’s natural cycles, and have a mindset of flexibility.

As busy professionals we need to be aware of the concepts and skills available to help us Understand, Retain and Act upon what we need to know, as quickly as possible.

With so much to do, and in so little time ‘what are your options?’ you ask.  Well, this programme includes some excellent ideas to help with that – options, ideas, tips, tricks, skills and strategies designed to help you work smarter and maintain sanity.

A technique employed by elite athletes to put themselves in peak performance mode.

It will not be a theory session but one to push your thinking and your practice.

The Jedi Memory and Great Training

A Brainy approach

This highly practical workshop will rekindle both your passion for teaching and your student’s desire to learn.   Recapture your enthusiasm with techniques which will ensure your delivery is motivating, attention-grabbing and enjoyable, both for you and your students.

The Experience of Learning is more than just ‘consumption’ of information. It is about innovation, action and the experience of excellent education.

For real learning and transfer of skills to take place, there must be a connection created within the learners’ brains. Your role is to become a benevolent Manipulator in making this magic happen! Learning is about connecting brain cells.  We need to look at what we are offering students in our Training delivery. Do we :

  • stimulate their brain’s curiosity?
  • touch their hearts?
  • shift their headspace and thinking?
  • equip them with hands-on skills?
  • move their feet into action?

This Presentation will both challenge you, and have you experience what this information means for you and your learning and delivery design. Be prepared to have fun and to shift mental mindsets. It will not be a ‘talk-fest’, but an experience where magic will happen, and practical skills will be learned. It might even improve your memory!

Asking Great Questions

  1. “Using great Questions”

The value of a consultation is not so much what you say as what you hear. There is nothing better than a really great question – it helps to get other people to reveal more than they consciously realise.

  2. NLP - WHAT is it all about?:
    • a. N-Neuro- Brain science
    • b. L- Linguistic - How we use words... e.g.” Why do I procrastinate? Vs How could I get this done? (unconscious wisdom)
    • c. P- Programming
      • i. Rain on a mountain goes to the bottom the fastest way possible and eventually forms gullies which deepen and attracts more flow making it hard for new gullies to form. So too the Brain has Neurologically formed and well worn pathways. NLP is one way to assist people form new alternative pathways. It gives people choices. The value of a consultation is not so much what you say as what you hear. There is nothing better than a really great question – it helps to get other people to reveal more than they consciously realise
  3. Questions that go deeper that a yes/ no response. Here we will explore and play with alternative ways to ask questions which work with the unconscious mind. This is a NLP technique which assists recipients to come to their own realisations using their unconscious brain’s intuitive wisdom. It is a very fast way to move a conversation and resolution forward.

Empowering the Learner: Part 2 – How they can help themselves

Empowering Learners with knowledge from the principles of Brain Friendly Learning and how this applies to their OWN learning will equip them with skills to seek out and identify the best ways for THEM to learn, whilst learning with you and in the future, for the rest of their lives.
